Our team of local wedding experts travel Central Texas touring venues and reporting back with virtual tours and detailed information on the “real cost” of each venue. 

Then we work with local planners to create custom layouts based on a variety of wedding sizes and get planner’s “real talk” advice based on their experience at that venue.

The wedding venue that you select is going to impact over 50% of your entire budget. The venue determines if you can bring in alcohol, if you need to bus your guests, which caterers you can have, where you can rent furniture, etc. It’s the most important decision you are going to make in regards to your budget. 

Our calculator takes all of this into account. Any cost that’s impacted by venue choice is covered.

Hey! Ren Newey here! Our virtual tours cover everything you need to know in 5 minutes, organized neatly into 5 chapters. 

It’s nearly impossible to compare apples-to-apples when shopping venues because they have different offerings and different revenue models! 

While experimenting with the idea for WeddingScout, I had an epiphany in the middle of the night and ran to my desk to write out all the variables that impact a wedding budget. I literally scribbled out every idea I could think of and then organized them into a mnemonic device: “SCOUT”. 

Chapter 1, Service: Covers catering, alcohol, and anything a server would be handling such as linens, napkins, glassware, and china. We also cover how the venue is servicing your wedding party the morning of the wedding. Is there a get-ready room, or should you plan for a hotel to get glam? 

Chapter 2, Capacity: We present realistic capacities for every area of the venue. Members also have access to custom layouts built by local wedding planners. Your capacity varies by many factors, including if you have a band, and if you do a buffet. These things take up space and are important to consider. 

Chapter 3, Outdoors: Rain plan is the most important part of this chapter, as we discuss tenting options. However, it’s also important to know if there are areas nearby for outdoor photos and if there is ample outdoor lighting for your guests. 

Chapter 4, Utilities: This isn’t the most exciting chapter, but it’s important! Should you plan to bring in extra power for a band? Are there enough restrooms for the maximum guest count? Which areas of the venue have heating and cooling? 

Chapter 5, Travel: The final chapter covers location and ease of transportation. How do guests typically arrive, and where do out of town guests stay? Are there fun things to do in the area?
